Timothy blog

A Taliban guard stood frozen, stunned by what he had just heard. In front of him was a prisoner, choosing death rather than denying Christ.

That prisoner was Timothy.

After nine brutal months of torture in a remote Taliban prison, Timothy felt the cold press of a gun against his forehead. He had already witnessed his brother-in-law, Ahmad, martyred for making the same choice.

Yet, in the face of death, Timothy spoke with unshakable resolve: "OK, you can shoot me. I will be with Jesus."

The guard's hands trembled as he lowered the weapon. Then, without warning, the executioner became a secret liberator. “I don’t want to shoot you,” he said. “I’ll find a way to get you released, but you have to flee.”

When the Taliban took control of Afghanistan three years ago, Timothy and Ahmad faced a life-altering decision: flee for their own safety, or stay to minister to underground believers with nowhere else to turn.

They stayed.

In the shadow of the Taliban, they led secret house churches, ministered to believers on the run, and spread hope where it seemed impossible. But in time, the danger became unavoidable. They were arrested. Ahmad was executed. Timothy endured unspeakable torture.

When Timothy was finally released, fleeing was no longer a choice—it was survival. But his heart remained in Afghanistan, with the believers he and Ahmad had served so faithfully.

Once in a safe country, Timothy wasted no time. He opened his laptop and launched a secret digital ministry aimed at reaching deep into Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Through sermons, worship, discipleship lessons, and private counseling, he began pouring light into a land where owning a Bible can mean immediate execution.

Others soon joined him. Together, they began building a digital sanctuary for Afghan Christians.

Timothy's mission continues with the support of partners committed to helping the persecuted Church. He is part of Help The Persecuted’s Enduring Shepherds Ministry, an initiative that provides trusted leaders with a year’s worth of support so they can fully devote themselves to ministry in hostile regions.

This partnership is changing lives. Right now, Timothy is reaching persecuted Afghan believers who have never met another Christian in person. And the impact is growing. Light is breaking through in a nation shrouded in fear and violence, and the darkness cannot overcome it!
