“Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope; today I declare that I will restore to you double.”—Zechariah 9:12

The prophet Zechariah spoke these words over weary Israelites thousands of years ago. But these ancient words, proclaimed by a God who calls us to hold hope for the world’s redemption, can encourage Christians just as much today.

At Help The Persecuted, we hear miraculous stories of God’s intervention on behalf of persecuted Christians in the Muslim world every day. The stories of unshakeable faith inspire us and prove that they are the heroes of the present-day Church. Their courage in the face of insurmountable odds and commitment to proclaiming Good News to the lost challenges our own ideas of what it means to live for Christ. They, like the ancient Israelites, are prisoners of hope—even when their circumstances are overwhelming.

These brothers and sisters courageously hope in a God who redeems all brokenness, and who called them to Himself despite all odds. They have lived experiences of a God who intervenes on their behalf, who meets them in the deepest parts of themselves, bringing restoration and life—in prison cells, Safe Houses, famine-ridden crop fields, earthquake rubble, and war zones.

No place is beyond redemption for a follower of Jesus Christ—a disciple who knows persecution and suffering won’t get the last word. Because of Christ, the weakness, trials, and wrestling are playing their part in transforming the Muslim world…one prisoner of hope at a time.

Prisoners of Hope Podcast

Hosted by Joshua Youssef, President of Help The Persecuted, and songwriter Will Carlisle, the Prisoners of Hope Podcast features real conversations with real people whose lives have been affected by persecution—people who are Prisoners of Hope.

In the Prisoners of Hope Podcast, we’ll:

  • Share how Christianity is anything but a coping mechanism for the faint of heart.
  • Learn from people who put their lives on the line for the sake of the Gospel.
  • Discover how the Holy Spirit is working in ways that seem ripped straight from the Boof of Acts.

We hope and pray that your faith is challenged and strengthened through these stories of suffering and redemption…pointing to a good and faithful God who will stop at nothing to expand His Kingdom to the farthest corners of the world. These stories will also serve as a mirror…revealing that you too are a Prisoner of Hope.

In our pilot episode, Josh and Will speak with our Field Ministry Team leader from Lebanon, a child soldier who encountered Jesus through the very people he once fought against. His conversion from Islam, then to atheism, and finally to Christianity started with honest questions about Islam and one vivid and fascinating dream. He shares about his day-to-day work, which sometimes can include leading a former ISIS leader to Christ!

Our second guests are the foundation of our Field Ministry Team—our regional leaders, Salam and Samar. They share how persecution uprooted their lives in the Middle East, eventually leading to several years spent in the United States. Now back in their home country, God is opening door after door for this couple to minister to our persecuted brothers and sisters in life-altering ways. Their unique perspective—having both participated in the American Church and served within the persecuted Church overseas—will challenge your understanding of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.
