Walid had one final chance to deny Jesus—and spare his life.
His coworkers waited. The factory floor fell silent. Then, Walid’s powerful declaration:
I am a Christian. I love Jesus Christ.
A man came from behind…snatched a box cutter…and sliced Walid's throat.
The persecution had been mounting for weeks. Walid and his father ran a successful business. They took a job at a factory, where the employees wondered, “Why should a Christian prosper while Muslims struggle?”
They began to torment him, trying to make him give up his faith. “You are not on the right path. You are going to be an infidel.”
Then came the ultimatum that would change Walid’s life forever: “Accept Islam now, or you will have to see the punishment from us.”
But Walid refused. He held fast to his faith even as he fell to the ground, covered in his own blood. His jugular vein—the very pathway of life itself—was severed. Doctors don’t know how he survived.
Now, Walid lies in a hospital bed, unable to speak…
His attackers, though temporarily detained, are spreading dangerous accusations that Walid “blasphemed Islam”—claims that could incite mob violence, or worse, against his entire family.
Our Field Ministers in Pakistan—Rachid, Fhami, and Farhan—rushed to Walid’s bedside when they learned about what had happened to him (pictured above). His family, who are staying nearby as Walid recovers, are afraid of returning home. “We are a minority. We are fourth-class people,” they said.
Because of your faithful support, we used Lightning Funds (immediately available emergency resources) to provide Walid’s medical care and a special diet as his throat heals.
But Walid and his family have a difficult road ahead of them.
Their home abandoned. Their livelihood destroyed. Their future uncertain.
But their faith?
Unbreakable.
Because of your support, we met Walid's immediate needs. Now, he and his family need longterm hope:
- Pastoral care as they heal from so much loss.
- A safe place to live, probably in a new city.
- The means to start a business again in a place where their work will not be jeopardized because of their faith.
Your partnership creates restoration pathways for those like Walid who have sacrificed everything for their faith. It declares that wicked Islamic extremism, which slices an innocent Christian’s throat, will never have the final word.
As Easter approaches, we remember the crucifixion—which was intended to silence Jesus.
But it did the opposite.
Two thousand years later, people across the world, in places like Pakistan, are refusing to bow down to pressure. Instead, they hold fast to their crucified, and risen, Lord.
The blade was intended to silence Walid.
Please be a part of writing Walid’s story, giving as generously as you can, as the Lord leads.
