Our recent Enduring Faith Conference in Iraq was a powerful discipleship gathering for nearly 100 individuals who had converted to Christianity from Islam. Organized by Field Ministers Nabeel and Salam, this multi-day intensive brought together believers to deepen their understanding of the Bible, strengthen their prayer lives, and build community. The conference was a time of worship, fellowship, and life-changing testimonies showcasing God’s incredible faithfulness
Baptisms Marking a Bold Step of Faith
One of the most remarkable moments of the conference was the baptism of four women, all former Muslims. Before being baptized, they shared their testimonies with the team, received prayer, and prepared their hearts for this significant step of faith. Just before entering the baptismal pool, these women removed their hijabs, symbolizing their freedom from the rules of Islam and their new life in Christ.
Two of these women had husbands who had come to faith earlier and attended last year’s Enduring Faith Conference, where they themselves were baptized. This year, they returned with their wives, longing for them to experience the joy of the Christian community. The men even participated in the baptism ceremony, lifting their wives out of the water—a powerful display of unity and shared faith.
Acts of Radical Generosity
Another unforgettable story emerged from the conference when a man shared that he was suffering from kidney failure and had been placed on a transplant list with little hope of finding a match. Immediately, another attendee offered to donate one of his kidneys. When approached about the gravity of this decision, the man responded, “I didn’t have to think about it. He’s my brother, and he is suffering and in need.” Reflecting on this, Salam remarked, “Is that Jesus or what? Only Jesus can change people like that!”
Worship, Fellowship, and Communion
The conference featured nine services covering various aspects of the Christian faith, helping attendees grow in their discipleship journey. For some, it was their first time meeting other Christians in person. “I am so happy! There are people like me. I never imagined a place like this,” one attendee shared.
The event culminated in a time of communion—a profound moment for many first-time participants. Through worship, teaching, and fellowship, attendees were equipped to return to their homes with a renewed sense of faith and community.
A Muslim Wife’s Journey to Christ
Another powerful testimony involved a man who regularly attended the online church program, often the only viable option for believers in certain regions. He had hoped his wife would join him at the conference, but she initially resisted, saying, “I’m a Muslim, and I can’t go with Christians.” However, she agreed to attend after persistent prayer by the online church community. Initially hesitant, she had a transformative experience during the conference and gave her life to Christ on the final day. She desires to learn more about Christianity and hopes to be baptized at next year’s gathering.
Sustaining Community Through Online Connections
The conference organizers connected attendees with the online church program to ensure ongoing discipleship. These believers can access discipleship materials, courses, and fellowship through secure communication channels, enabling them to grow in their faith even in isolated or persecuted settings.
Looking Ahead
One attendee summarized the impact of the conference, saying, “I can’t wait for next year. You made our dream of belonging to a community come true.” As these believers return to their homes, many in regions of persecution, prayers are much needed for their strength and courage. The hope is that next year, they will return with more friends and family members curious about Christianity.
Our Enduring Faith Conferences are a place where we witness God transform lives, build communities, and sustain faith despite persecution. Let us continue to pray for these believers and support their journey as they grow in Christ!
