Today, November 6, 2022, is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP). All around the world, Christians are praying for persecuted believers in countries like Iran, Syria, Egypt, and Lebanon—countries where the Help The Persecuted Field Ministry Team is actively on the ground working to Rescue, Restore, and Rebuild the lives of persecuted Christians.

We have created 7 prayer points to help guide your time in prayer. You can use these prayer points to pray alone, with your family, or with your church.

1. Pray for persecuted believers

Around the globe, persecuted believers are facing death threats, beatings, torture, imprisonment, rape, loss of employment, loss of inheritance, and all kinds of trials. Pray that God will give them strength and courage as they begin to rebuild their lives.

“In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” — 2 Timothy 3:12

2. Pray for converts threatened by their families

Many persecuted believers, especially converts to Christianity in the Muslim world, have been threatened and abandoned by their own family members because of their faith in Jesus Christ. Pray that God will encourage them and help them find a new family in the Body of Christ, the Church.

“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.” — Matthew 19:29

3. Pray for persecuted Afghans

Many Afghan evacuees are now settling into new home countries, while some are still waiting to re-settle. There are also several thousand Christians who remain in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Pray for God to provide for Afghans in these situations, that He would provide for them and comfort them.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” — Romans 8:35-37

4. Pray for persecuted believers in crisis

Many Christians converts are being hit hard right now by political turmoil and desperate economic situations in places like Lebanon and Yemen, especially as winter approaches. Pray for the provision of their every need.

“I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.” — Psalm 81:10

5. Pray for refugees traumatized and displaced by war

There are many Christian refugees who have lost families members and livelihoods as the result of war, not to mention the emotional damage as a result of witnessing warfare. Pray that God will bind every wound and help them establish new homes in safe places.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28-30

6. Pray for all those serving the persecuted

Serving the persecuted is often dangerous and difficult work. Many of our team members put their lives on the line for the sake of the Gospel. Pray for our Help The Persecuted Field Ministry Team and all those who serve the persecuted so faithfully.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

7. Pray for the growth of ministries serving on the frontlines

The number of persecuted Christians is growing, and we need more and more people on the frontlines working to spread the Good News and minister to Christians. Pray for wisdom, boldness, growth, and funding for Help The Persecuted and other ministries serving on the frontlines.

“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.” — 1 Chronicles 29:11
