“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”—Ephesians 3:20-21

Happy New Year from Help The Persecuted! As we remember all that the Lord accomplished in 2022, we are overwhelmed with gratitude. The Lord moved powerfully in the lives of persecuted Christians across the Muslim world last year. From the bottom of our hearts, to all those who partnered with us in prayer and by giving, thank you.

As we look ahead to 2023, we invite you to continue to pray for persecuted Christians. Below are our major prayer requests for the New Year. While we hope these requests are praise reports by the end of this year, several of these objectives seem impossible without our Lord’s miraculous intervention—and so we are leaving them in His hands, trusting that He will guide us.

Afghanistan: Hire On-the-Ground Field Staff

Following our rescue efforts in 2021, there is great opportunity to help the remnant Church survive and thrive within Afghanistan. Because the work is incredibly dangerous and sensitive, our timeline has yet to be solidified—but we are currently opening discussions with faithful candidates who are willing and ready to become our first Field Ministry Team members serving persecuted Christians inside Afghanistan.

Join us in praying that God opens the right doors, raises up the right candidates, and grants us wisdom as we step out in faith. Call upon the Lord’s love for Afghanistan, interceding on behalf of the countless persecuted Christians remaining in life-threatening situations under Taliban rule.

Syria: Launch a Crisis-Response Program

After recently spending time in post-war Aleppo and meeting with countless persecuted Syrian Christians, our Field Ministry Team leaders have developed a plan to address the massive food insecurity crisis and help these brothers and sisters suffering on account of it. We believe we can draw upon our recent successes with sustainable crisis response in Lebanon, as well as our Iraq Ministry Center in Qaraqosh, to make a growing impact in Aleppo.

Pray for the Syrian Christians who are not only persecuted but also without the resources they need to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of war. Ask that the Lord would maximize our impact in the country, providing broader and deeper help to our brothers and sisters.

Turkey, Yemen, Syria, and Central Asia: Open 4 New Safe Houses

Today, our 18 Safe Houses across the Middle East and North Africa provide refuge for those in imminent danger, offering a secure place to rest, heal, and be discipled. But as persecution rises and we move into new areas, the need for more Safe Houses is dire. By the end of 2023, we hope to have 4 new Safe Houses open to persecuted Christians in crisis. Three of these will be our first-ever in places like Syria, Yemen, and Central Asia.

Pray that the Lord would prepare the paths for these 4 new Safe Houses to open, granting us safe locations and wisdom in navigating logistics. Intercede on behalf of the persecuted Christians who will find themselves at these Safe Houses—that God would give them peace and show them the way forward.

Yemen: Expand Our Teams and Programs

Christians in Yemen face extreme persecution while also fighting to survive one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. While we have been working with trusted partners to provide support through emergency relief, providing living expenses, and Enduring Livelihood grants, the staggering need only grows. In 2023, we aim to ramp up our investment by hiring our own Field Ministry Team member in Yemen who will help persecuted Christians through our existing programs and provide face-to-face pastoral care and discipleship.

Pray that the Lord would miraculously open doors for one of our field team members to move to Yemen next year—ask that the Lord would prepare him for this ministry and use him in mighty ways to care for our Yemeni brothers and sisters. Join us in asking for God to raise up more laborers in Yemen, leading to the country’s ultimate healing and restoration through Christ!

Greater Muslim World: Grow Our Enduring Livelihood Program

Our Enduring Livelihood program makes it possible for persecuted Christians to start and sustain small businesses. With over 78% of these businesses still in operation today, this proven program changes lives and transforms communities. In 2022, we expanded this program into Iran, and we are already hearing of the life-changing impact on the lives of persecuted believers. In 2023, we plan to provide dignity, stability, and hope for many more by investing more heavily in this program.

Pray that the Lord provides the support we need to expand our Enduring Livelihood program, providing more persecuted believers with opportunities to provide for their families and revitalize their communities. Ask that the Lord connects us with those who will benefit from our investment the most.

Field Ministry Team

None of the above is possible without our Field Ministry Team. These brothers and sisters show remarkable dedication to this ministry, facing suffering with the utmost resilience. We want to cover them in prayer as they encounter illness, risk of imprisonment, and persecution from the communities that they are seeking to help.

Pray that each and every Field Ministry Team member is anointed with Christ’s peace and endurance in faith as he or she encounters hardship in various forms. Ask that God protects them and their families from Satan’s schemes, making their ministry to the persecuted and the lost in their countries abundantly fruitful.

As we move into new, dangerous territories and build upon what God has already done through Help The Persecuted, we invite you to continue partnering with us in prayer and giving. We are expectantly prayerful that God will do abundantly more than we could ask or imagine this year, just as he did in 2022!

Help us meet our 2023 goals.
